He was born on 26th August 1891, at Clunes Victoria, Son of Henri and Jane Rintel, of Warragul, Victoria, Australia
He was 5’ 11”, weighed 12st 10lbs, and had brown eyes and brown hair.
He attended Melbourne University, where the qualified as a Bachelor of Arts - Diploma of Education. He was in his 3rd year as a Bachelor of Law.
He was working at the time of his enlistment as a teacher.
He was 11 years a member of the Senior Cadets and in 1909 passed an exam which made him a Lieutenant.
He enlisted at Warragul, Victoria on 20th July 1915.
On 17th November 1916 he was secretly married to married Gwendoline of ‘Fairlight’, Girls Grammar School, Alma Road, East St. Kilda, Victoria, without the knowledge of his family.
He embarked at Melbourne on the ‘Hororata’ on 23rd November 1916, and disembarked on 29th January 1917 at Devonport.
30th January 1917 was sent to 2nd Training Battalion at Durrington.
20th April 1917 joined 1st A.D.B.D at Estaples.
11th May 1917 joined the 8th Battalion.
2nd August 1917 promoted to Lieutenant.
On 20 September 1917 Aged 26, he was killed in action.
The official report read:-
“Killed in Action 20-9-917- Killed instantaneously by a shell in the advance about 800 yards East of Clapham Junction, Belgium”. (Major. R.R. Wallis O.C. 8th Btn.)
He is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendaele, Belgium.

This photograph is dated 20th September 1917, the very day Lieut. Rintel was killed.
He was killed just 800 yards east of Clapham Junction.
"Australian soldiers occupying a position at Clapham Junction, in the Ypres sector when the 1st Division with the 2nd Division in support, advanced over the enemy positions at Glencourse Wood, Nonne Bosschen and the western position of Polygon Wood."
