Private Alexander Munro, 4342, 8th Battalion A I F.
He was the son of Andrew and Janet Munro, of Boyco, Victoria, Australia.
A native of Nhill, Victoria.
He was 5’7” tall, weighed 150 lbs, had blue eyes and sandy hair.
His occupation at enlistment was a Farmer.
Enlisted at 26th July 1915, Nhill, Victoria.
23rd November 1915 he was allocated to the 13th Reinforcements of the 8th Battalion at Broadmeadows.
29th December 1915 he embarked at Melbourne on the “Demosthenes” for Egypt.
3rd February 1916 admitted to hospital with measles.
19th February 1916 he was discharged from hospital.
29th March 1916 he departed from Alexandria on the “Transylvania” for France.
4th April 1916 arrived in Marseilles.
7th May 1916 he was admitted to hospital with mumps.
31st May 1915 rejoined Base Depot.
29th July 1916 joins the 8th Battalion.
18th August 1916, he was killed in action aged 22.
He is buried in Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers-La-Boisselle
