A blue plaque has been unveiled to commemorate Eastbourne war hero

The blue and white sign fixed above the door of the house where the VC recipient lived, at 33 Greys Road, Old Town, Eastbourne. Nelson Victor Carter was born in Eastbourne on the April 9, 1887.
He then went on to work, following a serious operation in 1912, as a commissionaire at the Old Town Cinema in the High Street, Eastbourne

He was survived by a wife and child who still lived at the Greys Road address when Mrs Catherine Carter received the Victoria Cross from the King on her husband's behalf, in May 1917.
